Who voted on this thing?

I like the song okay, but "Living on a Prayer" - best song of the 80s??? Seriously?

OK, first of all, let's just establish that there are two very separate classes of 80s music. There is the early 80s New Wave sound, and there is the later 80s Hair Bands. As someone who was a teenager in the early 80s, I actually resent the latter being lumped in with the former. But then I guess the show would have to be called "the 50 Greatest 80s Songs."

So, here's my own list - top 10 Best Songs of the 80s:

1. "Rio" Duran Duran
2. "Pride, in the Name of Love," U2
3. "Our Lips are Sealed" The Go-Go's
4. "Beat It" Michael Jackson
5. "Jump" Van Halen
6. "Under Pressure" Queen & David Bowie
7. "Everybody Wants You" Billy Squier
8. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" Tears for Fears
9. "Come On, Eileen" Dexy's Midnight Runners
10. "Your Love" The Outfield

What about "Talk Dirty to Me" by Poison and "(You Gotta Fight for Your Right to) Party" by the Beastie Boys?

And "Purple Rain"?

I like your list WAY better. There's a few others I'd like to see on there (say, "Land Down Under"), but what you listed, to me, is more what I consider 80s music!

Good calls, both.

Broad - if I were listing the most Influential Songs of the 80s all those would be on the list (except that silly poison thing), along with "London Calling" & "Like a Virgin."

Sirius - Men at Work just missed the list, as did "Love is a Battlefield" and "Manic Monday."

Oh God, oh God... Duran Duran - dude, my brother SO still has all their CD's!

Your list rocks... from a 'what I was stuck actually listening to' perspective, it is missing a Madonna tune, maybe an Eagles tune or two (although Long Run was technically released in 79, my God was it so played like every other song for the next 15 years) and, Kalisah - I gotta ask... where's the love for the Clash and Journey? :p

My thoughts exactly, EBY...where's Journey? and REO?

There needs to be some Depeche Mode on there.
